Training & Capacity Building

Sustainability and climate training that leaves a team able to do the work without us.

Professional training for organisations, institutions and teams on climate and sustainability — built around the decisions your people actually have to make, and delivered so that the capability stays in the building after we leave.

Most sustainability training fails for the same reason: it explains the topic rather than the job. A procurement officer sits through an hour on planetary boundaries and returns to a desk where nothing about the next tender has changed. The material was accurate and it was useless.

We build sessions around the decisions in front of the people in the room. What a buyer asks a supplier. What a facilities manager checks before renewing a contract. What a board needs to see before signing off a target. The science is in there, but it arrives attached to something that can be done on Monday.

Capacity building goes a step further than training. It means leaving behind the templates, the calculation methods and the internal champions who can run the next cycle themselves — because a programme that depends on an external consultant returning every year has not built capacity, it has built a dependency.

What you get

Deliverables

What an engagement actually produces, rather than what it is called.

  1. Training needs assessment

Who needs to know what, and to what depth. Usually the first time this has been mapped against actual roles rather than against job titles.

  2. Tailored session programme

Sessions written for your sector and your obligations, delivered in person or online, with the material adjusted between cohorts as the questions reveal where the gaps really are.

  3. Corporate awareness campaign

Organisation-wide communication for the behaviours that need everyone rather than a specialist — energy, waste, travel, procurement defaults.

  4. Toolkits and templates

The calculation sheets, checklists and briefing formats used in the sessions, handed over so the work can be repeated without us.

  5. Internal champion support

Deeper preparation for the two or three people who will carry the programme afterwards, including how to handle the sceptical questions they will get.

Who it's for

Is this you?

  • Organisations whose sustainability commitments now depend on staff behaviour rather than on capital spend
  • Institutions and universities building climate content into existing programmes
  • Development and humanitarian teams needing climate literacy across a field workforce
  • Boards and leadership teams who have to sign off targets they do not yet fully understand

Before you ask

Common questions

How long is a typical programme?
A single awareness session runs half a day. A capacity-building programme that leaves a team genuinely self-sufficient usually runs across several months, because the point is to support them through one full cycle of the work rather than to talk at them once.
Do you deliver online?
Yes, and for distributed teams it is often better — shorter sessions spaced across weeks retain far more than one long day. Workshops where people have to draft something together we would rather run in a room.
Can you train people who are sceptical about all of this?
That is frequently the most productive room. We do not run sessions that require agreement as a starting point; we run them around obligations, costs and risks, which are the same whatever anyone privately thinks.
