Environmental work goes wrong in a predictable way: an intervention gets chosen because it is visible, not because the site needed it. Planting on ground that needed hydrology work. Fencing a habitat whose real pressure was nutrient runoff. Buying offsets before measuring the emissions they are meant to cover. The result looks like action and changes very little.
We start from data instead. What is actually present, what condition it is in, what is suppressing it, and then the smallest set of interventions that moves those specific indicators — with a monitoring plan attached, so the answer is knowable in three years rather than arguable.
The same discipline applies to climate. An emissions baseline that quietly omits the categories nobody wants to measure is not a baseline; it is a press release with a number in it. We scope what can be measured well, say plainly what cannot yet be, and set out what it would take to change that.

Before you ask
Common questions
- How long does a baseline take?
- It depends on scope and season. Some species can only be surveyed in particular months, which often sets the timetable more than anything else. We will tell you at the outset if a survey window means waiting, rather than substituting a weaker method to hit a date.
- Can you work from data we already hold?
- Often, yes. If you hold recent surveys or an existing inventory we will assess whether they are current and complete enough to build on, and scope only the gaps. Paying twice for the same fieldwork helps nobody.
- What happens if the results are unfavourable?
- You get them anyway. A baseline that quietly omits an inconvenient finding is worse than no baseline, because it fails at exactly the point where it matters most.
